Forest School

Wivelsfield Forest School

At Wivelsfield Primary School, our Forest School ethos is rooted in a deep respect for children and the belief that they learn best through exploration, challenge and hands‑on experience. We encourage pupils to take appropriate risks, make choices, try new things and learn from mistakes, all within a safe and carefully supervised environment.

Our Forest School sessions help children develop important character traits such as resilience, independence, creativity, confidence, motivation and self‑reliance. Working outdoors also supports social development, as children learn to collaborate, communicate and support one another.

Through sensory, practical and inquiry‑based experiences, pupils build a strong connection with the natural world. They are encouraged to observe, question, experiment and maintain a sense of curiosity about the environment around them.

Our Forest School Rules

  • Look after yourself
  • Look after other people
  • Look after where you are

These simple principles guide children to behave responsibly, respectfully and safely during every session.

All EYFS & KS1 children take part in Forest School once every two weeks, and KS2 children attend sessions each short term, ensuring every pupil benefits from regular outdoor learning throughout their time at Wivelsfield.
