Cricket Champions

Just 4 days on from their victory the year 5 boys cricket team were back in action at the County Finals held at the Sussex Cricket Training Ground.

We joined 11 other teams from right across the country and knew the mainly year 6 opposition would be tough.

We won our first 2 group games only to be beaten by some formidable bowling by Maidenbower in match 3.

We finished 2nd in our group narrowly missing out on a semi final space. The afternoon was spent playing 2 further games against the other 2nd place group teams, winning 1 and losing the other.

The boys were positive, encouraging and determined throughout, to each other and the opposition.

We finished 6th overall - an astonishing achievement for a team which included 6 boys who had never played cricket before last week. 120 teams across the county entered this comp - what an achievement for our small village school.
Congratulations to the Wivelsfield year 5 cricketers who won the Wealden area cricket tournament today.

Superb display of bowling, fielding and teamwork culminating in a nail biting final match which was won by just 3 runs!

Well done to the year 5/6 mixed team who also played an outstanding tournament despite many having never played cricket before.
