Our main topic for the Spring Term is Rivers and Rainforests. Our enquiry question, which will be answered through our Geography and History lessons, will be ‘Is deforestation ever justified?’
The children have started with looking at the Amazon River and Rainforest, exploring the ecosystems of the river & rainforest. We will then explore the reasons behind deforestation and the impact it has.
To finish we will travel back in time to look out the ancient Mayan civilisation and how they used the river and rainforest; looking to discover if deforestation is a new problem.
Otters will have PE on a Monday & Tuesday afternoons.
On Monday, the children will take part in dance lessons. Looking at Mayan dance movements before creating their own dances based around a story.
They will also have PE on a Tuesday afternoon, with this term’s focus golf.
Whenever possible the children will have PE outside. During the cold weather, please ensure your child brings trousers for PE and a warm layer available as part of their kit for both the top and bottom to cover their t-shirt.
Homework will be sent out on a Wednesday and will be due in on the following Monday. We encourage children to take responsibility for their homework and practicing their spellings.
A homework club is provided on Wednesday lunchtime for any children who are unable to complete it at home or would like to an opportunity to complete it during school time.
Each week the children will know which times table they are to practice and will be tested on a Wednesday.
